October 2021: Writer-in-Residency at the A.I.R. Studio Paducah with author, Elizabeth Bruce. We are working together on a novel set in 1972. It was a great Residency and we truly enjoyed our time in Paducah, Kentucky.

My essay, "The Tree of Life" won third place in the 2017 Story Circle Network LifeWriting Competition named in honor of author, Susan Wittig Albert. The essay appears in the September issue of the Story Circle Journal.
WOMEN ARTISTS/WOMEN HEALING PRESENTS:
THE HEALING POWER OF LITERATURE: NURTURING EMPATHY THROUGH FICTION
The workshop, presented by authors Elizabeth Bruce and Debra Bowling, will focus on nurturing empathy through complex, three-dimensional character development of characters from the margins of society whose lived experience includes narratives of trauma and resilience.
Elizabeth Bruce is the author of And Silent Left the Place - Winner of Washington Writers' Publishing House Fiction Prize, ForeWord Magazine's Bronze Prize in Fiction, and Finalist for the Texas Institute of Letters' Best Work of First Fiction. Debra Bowling is the author of The Memory of Flight - Winner of the 2015 Georgia Author of the Year Award, First Novel and Editor's Pick, Story Circle Book Reviews.
